We know that the corona virus pandemic has had a profound impact on nearly every economic industry. House design and construction is no different. As many workers move to WFH hybrid situations, housing design is due for a few changes.
Some of these changes include:
- Indoor and outdoor recreational areas. Pools, barbecue areas, outdoor dining, volleyball courts, indoor gyms, yoga studios and other areas are growing in popularity as families find ways to stay active at home.
- Home Office. And one that isn’t just the guest bedroom with a desk in it. Professionals are looking for office spaces with built in shelving, large, well-lit workspaces that are conducive to everything from a Zoom call to a full 8 hour work day.
- Larger/More spacious kitchens. With more people at home and more mouths to feed as children stay home from school and college students move back in with their parents, larger kitchen spaces are on the to do list in order to accommodate more time in the kitchen
- Indoor cinemas. An accessory room can be turned into a cinema with some well placed drop down screens and recliners. With large gatherings limited, it is unlikely many cinemas will be able to open to full capacity (and homemade snacks cost less than the typical concessions).
