With many people homebound during COVID-19, many are undertaking their own renovation projects. Whether its finally painting a new bathroom or doing a full kitchen demo – we have a few tips and tricks.
The biggest tip – think before you sledgehammer, metaphorically and of course literally.
- Create a goals list – this will keep you on task, will help you grasp the full scope of the project, and can help you organize which steps need to be prioritized
- Create a budget – Everything seems great 3 days in and then somehow you’re $1000 in and only have a bit of scraps to show for it. Know what your budget is initially so that you can purchase materials within your price point, and you can know the scope of how far your budget can stretch. You can even use a cost calculator like the one found here to help aid in your preparation
- Know your timeline. Something quick like painting can take up to a week while a kitchen remodel may take several months and require you and your family to vacate your home for a few days, especially when flooring is involved. That doesn’t sound great when you have to find a hotel in a blizzard or leave your central air during the heart of summer
- Know your limits. Google and internet resources are amazing in terms of guiding you through a project. However, know your comfort limits and when its time to call in an expert (Thats where we come in)
If you would like help with any of the above tasks we would love to talk with you. Send us an email or call us and we can point you in the right direction.
Have a great weekend from the Altered Properties Team.
